Boccia County Finals April 2019

Boccia County Finals April 2019

On Wednesday afternoon, Ben, Josh K, Josh B and Harry arrived at St Helen and St Katharine’s School having won the West Oxfordshire Boccia event earlier in the year.

This year saw a bumper 21 teams reach this stage of the competition and The Batt played in a group of five, needing to come in the top two places to progress to the knockout stage. First taking on Botley, they took the first end with a score of two before Botley pulled one back. However, Harry slid his ball, knocking the oppositions out of the way at the same time, to seal the victory by 4-1 to start their winning ways.

Taking on a tough Witney CP side next, honours were even until the last end where Josh B produced a great delivery to win the second game also. Two more wins followed against St Nicholas and Rush Common by 3-1 and 3-2 respectively to ensure The Batt topped the group and qualified for the quarter finals.

The Batt took on Stanford in the Vale and having lost the first end by 2 with a delivery that could only be explained as gravity defying as it turned through ninety degrees, The Batt then stole the next end by 1 to set up a winner takes all third end. However it wasn’t to be as Stanford eventually ran out 5-1 winners to end The Batt’s challenge.

A huge well done to all The Batt team who played with good grace and respect throughout the whole tournament!
