Cricket League v Ducklington 14/6/17

The Batt School team opened their league campaign on a scorching afternoon in the tranquil surroundings of Ducklington School’s playing field.

Nick, taking the captains role, won the toss and elected to field with a strong bowling outfit at his disposal. Opening up, Jacob took a few balls to find his range but then slowed the run rate superbly. Oli then tempted the Ducklington player into a rash shot which saw Ethan catch excellently on the boundary. Some more tight bowling from Tom and Harry soon saw Ducklington needing to take more risks, which provided wickets for Freddie, Ethan and Joe with Tom also catching well. With Joe and Nick tightening the screw further in the final overs, Ducklington’s batsmen were left with a well below par 228.

Coming out to bat, Jacob and Oli having remembered that they are allowed to run between the wickets to score, ticked the score over steadily. Tom and Harry increased the run rate, with Freddie and Ethan (Ben Stokes in disguise) coming in next, the ball started to disappear to all parts of the ground. Freddie scored a huge six over square leg that the umpire did well to avoid!

In the final couple of overs even though Ducklington’s bowlers picked up a couple of wickets with some sharp catching, it was not quite enough as Joe and Nick continued to pile on the runs. With a final score of 265 The Batt had a convincing start to their league campaign.
