Cricket League v North Leigh and Aston

Cricket League v North Leigh and Aston

The Batt played host to an opening league triangular match with North Leigh and Aston invited to “Fortress Batt” in the start of this years Witney Partnership Cricket League.

With The Batt taking on North Leigh in the first game, North Leigh won the toss and elected to field. Theo S and Josh got The Batt off to a steady start after losing a couple of quick wickets and with Rosie following up with a couple of sixes hooked to the leg side boundary the total started to grow. Teilo and Theo then put on 24 runs off their two overs before Jacob and Harry bludgeoned the ball to all parts of the ground to set North Leigh a challenging total of 273 off their eight overs.

Although The Batt kept the openers quiet in terms of runs, no wickets were being taken, it took a good delivery from Miri to bowl the North Leigh second pair. With tight bowling and sharp fielding The Batt restricted all North Leighs batsmen to just 236 off their overs to give The Batt a 37 run win.

Following a win for Aston against North Leigh, The Batt then faced off against Aston and in true Batt style, lost the toss and were inserted into bat. With tight bowling and The Batt not being able to connect with the ball (see what I did there)! The Batt midway through their innings had only put nine runs onto the scoreboard. Louis and Barney then Harry and Jacob managed to get the score up to a respectable 250.

With TJ and Darcy opening the bowling it was important to keep things tight and although Aston’s batsmen were hitting boundaries, both girls managed to take wickets, thanks to some sharp catches in the field, therefore reducing Astons total. Wickets then fell at regular intervals with Louis taking two in his over and although Aston had outscored The Batt, when wickets were taken into consideration The Batt ran out 13 run winners as Astons final total was 237.

Congratulations to all who represented The Batt in a very successful opening league encounter!
