Football League v Madley Brook

Football League V Madley Brook

The league campaign opened for The Batt, playing a home fixture at The Batt’s fortress playing field against Madley Brook School, with many players from both teams known to each other at club level.

Kicking off first, The Batt played a high tempo pressing game which forced Madley to be pinned into their half. Using the width on a relatively small pitch The Batt put cross after cross into the box with Madley’s defence and some last ditch tackles keeping honours even. On a rare foray into The Batt half, Harvey then picked up a loose ball and played a first time ball over the top with Charlie running onto and with outstretched foot guided the ball beyond the Madley keeper to nestle into the corner of the net. Not long after this the half time whistle went to give The Batt the edge.

The second half started with Madley pressing for an equaliser and Ed covered his area well in The Batt goal, pulling off some smart saves in the process. With Madley pressing, it left them vulnerable at the back and Dylan exploited this with a rapid run down the wing, putting the ball across for Charlie to poke home his second. With The Batt again in the ascendance only Madley’s defence and keeper kept the score line down and with just minutes to go Charlie rounded off a fine strikers performance by tapping home his hat trick after the keeper had parried the ball out.

A great opening 3-0 win and now the team look forward to a trip to Our Lady of Lourdes for their next encounter.
