Girls' Football League v West Witney 17th March

On a windy Friday afternoon, the next visitors in the girls' football league were West Witney. They arrived at The Batt School playing fields, confident, on the back of a recent win against Aston.

The game started at a lightening pace with West Witney creating early chances using their pace to their advantage. However with a combination of inaccurate finishing and solid defensive work from Eleanor and Hannah, The Batt kept West Witney at bay.

With confidence growing, The Batt started creating chances of their own and with Eve and Martha H putting in strong tackles there were more opportunities for scoring. Against the run of play at that point though, from a Batt corner, West Witney cleared and broke quickly, catching The Batt defence out of position and allowing the striker to fire a low shot into The Batt goal. 1-0 to West Witney at half time.

At the start of the second half West Witney continued to pressure The Batt defence and some amazing saves from Martha S kept The Batt in the game. Just as West Witney had done to The Batt in the first half, a quick break from an opposition corner sent Bethany through with a one on one with the goalkeeper and a swift strike to the bottom corner levelled the score line. 1-1. Despite continued pressure from a strong West Witney side, The Batt defence held firm to play out a well earned draw.

Congratulations to all for a great performance.
