West Oxfordshire Netball Tournament

Following the success from the Witney Schools tournament, The Batt School once again headed off to Wood Green School, on a windswept day, to take part in the West Oxfordshire tournament against five other schools from the area.

Playing in a round robin format, The Batt’s first game was against Hanborough and The Batt started somewhat uncharacteristically at pace, keeping possession fantastically and with Immie scoring almost every shot she took, with three goals, The Batt dominated the first game to run out 4-0 winners.

The second and third game against St John’s and Wychwood followed suit with The Batt moving the ball with lightning pace across the court and with goals from Dylan and Olivia in the first of these two and Katie “I can’t shoot,” scoring a hat trick of goals in the second game, The Batt ran out two more 4-0 wins against these two sides.

The team then took on a very tall Kingham side who were very adept at playing the high ball and with The Batt not playing enough bounce passes we soon found ourselves 1-0 down. However, good link up play between Immie and Olivia soon found the equalising goal but Kingham had a reply to inflict the first loss on The Batt.

The last game was a reply of the Witney Final against West Witney, however, The Batt learned from that game and used the bounce pass to great effect against another very tall team and although they dominated possession they could not find that all important goal and the game finished 0-0.

Overall The Batt ended up runners up for tournament and now progress through to the county finals next month along with West Witney. Congratulations to all our netball team for a great performance!
