West Oxfordshire Year 5 Cricket

West Oxfordshire Year 5 Cricket Tournament

Last Friday, The Batt entered the annual Year Five tournament played at Stonesfield’s picturesque cricket ground along with 14 other teams from the West Oxfordshire area.

The first game saw The Batt take on Combe and after being put into bat, took off on a flyer with Harvey and Dylan in the mood to hit many boundaries. With good support throughout the team, The Batt totalled 253. Combe then took to the wicket and with tight bowling and some great catching from Ed and Will, The Batt never looked in trouble and restricted Combe to 181, winning by a huge 72 run margin.

The Batt then continued in fine form by hammering Carterton Primary and Kingham B team by 93 and 71 runs respectively before coming up against a strong Bladon team. With Bladon setting The Batt an achievable 249 run target, it took a great rescue attempt in the latter overs from Charlie and Tom to give The Batt a slender 13 run victory to end up topping the group.

With a semi final against Kingham A on the cards, The Batt took to the field bowling tight lines, however some great batting from Kingham made sure the score board ticked over…..until the 7th over when the new Kingham batsman took a liking to Will’s bowling despatching him for five 6’s in one over, including two that cleared the neighbours house! With a total of 313 to chase it was always going to be tough and despite some top scoring from both Katie and Immy, The Batt fell well short at 254.

Onto the 3/4 play off against Holy Trinity and a bounce back was what the team needed and they got what they deserved with a 23 run victory to give themselves third place overall and a spot in the county finals in July.

Congratulations to all our year 5 team on what was a great festival of cricket!
