Year 4 Witney Tennis Tournament

As the weather started brightening up that could only mean one thing, the tennis season was underway. A short trip to Witney Tennis Club meant eight of our year four children were ready to play Mini Red Tennis against other primaries from the area.

Playing individually in a ranked order of from 1 to 8, in a six minute game, the team started off against Aston in what proved to be a cagey affair with The Batt pupils trying to find their range on the court, but after some lovely cross court shots from many players, the guys squeezed out a 4-4 draw from their first game. A much more dominant performance ensued against Tower Hill next which saw James produce some punishing forehand smashes and The Batt ran out 6-2 winners. They followed this up with victories against Stonesfield and Queen Emmas to set up a semi-final match versus long term adversaries, The Blake. With Macy pulling off some great backhand returns and Imogen, Jasmine and Eleanor growing in confidence, the team commanded their matches with another 6-2 win to progress to the final. In a repeat of Monday’s football final, The Batt were to face off again against North Leigh and this proved to be a tense episode whilst some of our players were winning convincingly, some of the North Leigh team were fighting back strongly. At the end of the match the scores ended 4 wins each so a count back on points scored in each match followed and with a score of 74 to 72 points, The Batt School ran out as champions and will now progress to the West Oxfordshire finals later this month.

Huge congratulations to Jacob, James, Elliot, Theo, Macy, Eleanor, Jasmine and Imogen for playing some great tennis.
