Our Teacher - Miss Doughton

I have worked at The Batt School since 2018, where I have worked in Years 3 and 4. However, I love exploring different year groups’ curriculums through my work as a Phase Lead, Maths Lead and Mental Health Lead.

As a dyslexic, I have always enjoyed learning, despite having to discover ways to make it work for me. I studied Primary Education (BA Hons) at The University of the West of England, Bristol. I loved teaching in Bristol and thoroughly enjoyed the diversity of the city. Since then, I remained as a student at UWE and have completed a Masters in Education alongside my teaching.

My Masters dissertation focused on children’s mental health; a topic I am passionate about and find fascinating. Because of this, I became Mental Health Lead and feel it is a topic the whole school community should have a good understanding of.

Alongside this, I am also Maths Lead and have enjoyed beginning to align our maths teaching and learning with St Mary’s. As a child, I had a difficult relationship with maths so I am passionate about teaching in a visual way where all children can appreciate the connections and relationships between different aspects of number. Maths should be enjoyable and is a subject every child can master!

In my spare time, I love to be out and about in the countryside with my spaniel. I spend as much time as possible in Devon and Cornwall and aim to walk the whole of the coastal path one day. I also love to bake!
