What we teach in the classroom will help our pupils foster lifelong aspirations, goals and values. With this in mind, PSHE education isn’t just another school subject. It’s a chance to give every child and young person an equal opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge they need to thrive now and in the future.
This includes helping them to deal with critical issues they face every day such as friendships, emotional wellbeing and change. And giving them a solid foundation for whatever challenging opportunities lie ahead, so they can face a world full of uncertainty with hope.

PSHE education helps pupils prepare for all the opportunities, challenges, life decisions and responsibilities they'll face.This in turn achieves a 'virtuous circle', whereby pupils with better health and wellbeing can achieve better academically, and enjoy greater success.

PSHE at The Batt

We want children to leave our school with the tools they need for a happy and successful life. This includes skills and understanding beyond academic knowledge. Personal Social Health and Economic (PSHE) education develops children's social and emotional literacy, resilience and knowledge of how to manage their health and well-being so that they are equipped for happier, healthier lives and have the confidence and agency to make their way through the world.

Exploration - children explore their sense of belonging and place in the world, recognising heir rights and responsibilities as well as celebrating what makes them indivdual and unique. 

Co-operation - children learn to value and respect difference and explore their personal realtionships with others. They understand what health realtionships look and feel like and can manage conflict positively.

Communication - children learn to recognise and communicate their feelings and emotions appropriately and develop their sense of self-worth. They also develop their understanding of appropriate boundaries and are able to assert themselves.

Innovation - Children can identify their own dreams and goals for the future and are motivated to take positive steps towards achieving these. They also understand that change, both in themselves and in the world around them, is a necessary part of life and develop their confidence in facing this.

Our PSHE Curriculum is based on the planning and resources of Jigsaw PSHE which provides a progressive curriculum built around six themes:

Being Me in My World, Celebrating Difference, Dreams and Goals, Healthy Me, Relatonships and Changing Me.

Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) at The Batt

New statutory guidance for relationship sex and health education came into effect in September 2021. The Jigsaw PSHE Curriculum includes all the statutory requirements for Relationship, Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education through its Relationships, Changing Me and Health Me strands.
