Our Teacher - Mrs Wilson

Staff 0128I am very proud to be a teacher at The Batt Primary School. I love working with children, helping them to learn and delighting in their achievements. No two days are ever the same and I enjoy teaching the wide range of subjects on offer in primary school. I work very closely with my job-share, Mrs Payne, and we share a common interest in helping our fledgling Sparrowhawks to succeed.

I read music and French at the university of Southampton and graduated with a BA honours degree. I then did a Postgraduate Certificate in Education at Brookes University and began my teaching career in Gloucestershire. Since then I have taught in a range of primary schools across all age groups and have led numerous different subjects.

At the Batt school I am currently subject lead for Art and Design and for Design and Technology. I am passionate about children experiencing high quality sequences of lessons, where they enjoy developing the knowledge and skills to become competent and successful at secondary school and beyond if they so wish.

In my own time, I love the arts and culture, including listening to music, going to the theatre, visiting art galleries and museums. I play the cello in an orchestra and I read widely. I love walking in the countryside and I like doing yoga and going swimming.

Our Teacher - Mrs Payne

Staff 0090Originally from Bath, Somerset, I joined the teaching staff at The Batt over thirty years ago, having graduated from London University with an honours degree in Music, and having spent a couple of years singing professionally.  As a musician, I love sharing my passion for singing with the children both with the after-school choirs and during the weekly whole-school singing sessions.

Alongside my job share partner, Mrs Wilson, I really enjoy teaching our Year Six class, the Sparrowhawks, whether it is challenging them with tricky Maths, helping them to improve their writing skills,  or exploring the History and Geography topics. I also love supporting them in their transition to secondary school.

When I am not at work, I play the piano for the Abingdon Operatic Society. I also enjoy gardening, going for walks and have recently taken up running.
